The true story of the most famous SAS operation in historyBravo Two Zero was the code name of the famous SAS operation a classic story of bravery in the face of overwhelming odds BRAVO TWO ZERO by patrol commander Andy McNab became an international bestseller as did the book by Chris Ryan THE Good book but the writer seems to be implicitly trusting what everyone says to him without uestion While I have no doubts that the original books were embellished and dramatised as pretty much all nonfiction books are no matter how factual they claim to be things such as we're apparently supposed to believe now that these 8 highly trained men managed to fire off well over 2000 rounds of 556mm 66mm rockets 40mm grenades etc between them and didn't even slightly wound a single person I find that in itself rather difficult to believe He also makes out they weren't mistreated by the Irais at all when images of other Gulf War prisoners such as captured British Tornado pilots clearly show they badly treated For a book claiming to be telling the real truth seems a little contradictory in places to me Is a good read though

The Real Bravo Two Zero The Truth Behind ONE THAT GOT AWAY Both men became millionaires Three members of the patrol were killed One veteran sergeant Vince Phillips was blamed in both books for a succession of mistakes As Michael Asher reveals the stories in BRAVO TWO ZERO and THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY grew considerably in the telling T Having read both “Bravo Two Zero” and “ The one that got away” I couldn’t help but feel that Michael Asher was constantly trying to disprove both Mcnab and Ryan’s accounts I appreciate that Asher was trying to defend the honour of the regiment and of Vince Phillips but the book was overshadowed by a sense of sometimes childlike rivalry as if he wanted to be their himself on that fateful mission but tries to discredit the ones who wereFor me it was a good read but at times I felt that I was reading about one man’s personal mission to discredit the whole affair which doesn’t seem to be in the nature of an ex SAS veteran Nobody knows for sure if Asher’s account was also embellished so for me the fact finding became of a subjective endeavour with Asher most certainly out to get Mcnab and Ryan A little bit disappointing due to the personal vendettas against the other authors
